The general-purpose clamp — one hand slides the arm down to the work, the other tightens. Faster to set than a bar clamp and less force at the pad, which is the right trade for holding a piece to a bench while you work on it rather than for a structural glue-up.
The sliding arm grips by tipping against the bar, so it needs the bar clean to hold. Adhesive or dust on the bar is why an F-clamp slips, and it is the first thing to check before assuming the clamp is worn out.

How these were arrived at
Measured with an inline load cell between the pads, ten samples, at 68°F, with a clean dry bar. A bar with cured glue on it holds materially less and the failure is a sudden slip rather than a gradual one.

- Finish & variation
- Zinc-plated bar and screw, painted castings. The bar will show a burnished track where the sliding arm bites; that is the mechanism working.
- Made
- Bars rolled and castings machined in northern Italy; pads, screws and handles assembled and tested here in Pennsylvania.
Care
- Keep the screw thread clean and lightly greased; grit in the thread is what makes a clamp feel worn out.
- Store hanging or flat, not standing on the pad.
- Wipe adhesive squeeze-out off the pads before it cures rather than after.
- Keep the bar clean and dry. A greasy bar makes the sliding arm slip; grease the screw, never the bar.
Cautions
- Not a lifting or a pulling device. A clamp is rated to hold a joint closed in compression and nothing else; using one in tension or overhead is how a casting lets go.
- Not for closing a badly-fitted joint. Force applied to pull a gap shut is stored in the glue line and comes back out as a failed joint months later.
- Not to be extended with a bar or a pipe on the handle. The rating below assumes hand force on the handle as supplied.
- Not for a panel glue-up. The throat is shallow and the force is modest — use bar clamps and let these hold cauls.
